Last one I swear...What If 141...had an American girlfriend and they argued or had to teach them about some cultural differences? Football/soccer...currency...bathroom/loo, etc.
You said last one but we know that's not true. Don't blame you though. Keep them coming.
I love this idea. It's so cute! Translation mixup, confusion about slang, cultural differences, etc. Even though the Brits speak English, it's nothing like American English in a lot of respects, which is why I find this prompt so fun!
Wanted to make this quick and short. Presented in four drabbles. Enjoy!!

Kyle "Gaz" Garrick
“Those are cookies, Kyle.”
“It’s a biscuit.”
“No,” you say, shaking your head. “A biscuit is savory. Cookies are sweet.”
“Your biscuit is a scone.”
“Oh my god,” you groan.
An old lady navigates around the two of you inside the grocery store. Her cart almost clips you.
Kyle glances down at the list in his hands. “What the fuck is an eggplant?”
“We need it for dinner on Tuesday.”
“But what is it?”
You point and Kyle follows. His arm drops to his side and he side-eyes you.
“That’s an aubergine.”
“That’s an aubergine,” you mimic as Kyle laughs.
Simon "Ghost" Riley
The front of the pub is painted all black with intricate gold lettering. A nearby streetlamp casts the front window in a warm glow.
“Remember what I told you?” asks Simon.
You both stare at the pub, neither moving to the door just yet.
“Tell me again.”
Simon clears his throat. “If I’m buying a round, don’t offer money for your portion. Order at the bar but don’t linger. Know what you want. Respect closing time.”
He pauses and you see him turn in the reflection of the window.
“Got it?” he asks.
“Got it.”
“Let’s get bloody pissed then.”
John "Soap" MacTavish
“You’ve got this. Don’t stress.” Johnny grasps your shoulders and squeezes. “It’ll be fine.”
“What if I mess up. Make a fool of myself?”
“You won’t,” he affirms.
“Johnny.”
He sighs and then cups the sides of your face. “You don’t have to say anything but three things.” You breathe deep, and Johnny goes in for a quick kiss. “What are they?”
“Aye,” you say. “Which means yes.”
“Naw,” and this is you emphasize with a terrible accent that makes Johnny wince, “is no.”
“What else?”
“It’s okay to use ‘fuck’ casually in a sentence.”
“That’s my girl,” laughs Johnny.
John Price
“If you’re coming to the game, you’re calling it by its proper name,” says John, pointing at you.
“What?” you ask with pretend aloofness. “Soccer?”
“Football,” he growls with annoyance.
It irritates John when you call the sport by its American name. But you do it anyway just to tease him.
John holds up a jersey. “This is important to me.”
“I know.”
“It’s a game with the boys.”
You pat his shoulder. “I know, John.”
He sighs. “What is it called?”
You remain quite and John arches an eyebrow.
“Soccer,” you answer, grinning.
“You’re lucky you’re so damn cute.”

MOULIN ROUGE! dir. Baz Luhrmann | 2001
Was Moulin Rouge filmed in Paris?
It is this end of the 19th century that Baz Luhrmann recreates in his film Moulin Rouge. Most of the film was shot in the studio, in Australia. But to write the script, the film maker carried out a lot of documentary research and immersed himself in the atmosphere of Montmartre.
Moulin Rouge! is a 2001 jukebox musicalromantic drama film directed, produced, and co-written by Baz Luhrmann. It follows an English poet, Christian, who falls in love with the star of the Moulin Rouge, cabaret actress and courtesan, Satine.
Starring
Nicole Kidman
Ewan McGregor
John Leguizamo
Jim Broadbent
Richard Roxburgh
Moulin Rouge! - Wikipedia
Moulin Rouge!
The most famous cabaret in the world!
The Moulin Rouge was immortalized by Toulouse-Lautrec and was the cradle of the music hall with the famous Mistinguett. Since it opened in 1889, it has dazzled the whole world. Edith Piaf, Liza Minnelli, Frank Sinatra and Elton John … numerous French and international personalities have over the years become enamoured of this legendary cabaret!
The room is magnificently decorated in belle époque style and red velvet, with typical burlesque frescoes. A wonderful place to enjoy gourmet French food by by the Chef David le Quellec, served with champagne - the official drink of the cabaret. All your senses are awakened as you enjoy your food and watch the show!
Admire a troupe of 60 artists from all over the world who perform twice each evening in the revue 'Féerie', a show made up of four breathtaking acts: feathers, rhinestones, sequins, sparkling decor, acrobats, original music, international attractions ... not forgetting the famous fast-paced French Cancan.
An iconic place, flamboyant colour, talented artists, renowned craftsmen, a high-quality team, original stage productions ... The Moulin Rouge is all that, and more!
Come and spend an evening at the Moulin Rouge - with family, friends ... or lovers - and discover the show "Féerie". Being dazzled by the artists is synonymous with an “enchanted interlude" ... in brief; a magical and unforgettable moment! Correct clothing required. Jacket and tie appreciated. Albert Capellani’s Les Misérables in America
This one isn’t something that I translated, it’s actually in english and I’m sorry there’s no paragraph breaks. Variety, 30 January 1914
The Victor Hugo story of "Les Miserables" has been done before in motion picture, some years ago by the Pathe concern, as a serial, with releases somewhat apart and running but 1,000 feet each. The French-made film now being shown at the Carnegie Lyceum by the Gordon Bros. of Boston is in four acts and nine reels, taking two and one-half hours to run off. It is the full story, agreeably condensed, with plenty of dramatic action, plenty of misery and plenty of sentiment. At a private showing last Friday evening a woman delivered a lecture on Victor Hugo and his work for nine minutes before the film started to unreel, but she said nothing and only worked the audience into a state of impatience that boded ill for a favorable opinion unless the picture was "there". It was. Interest centred from the commencement and to those present with recollections of the Hugo fiction tale, the pretty landscape settings and the tragic incidents of Jean Valjean's life were especially vivid. To others it revived the book, and to the non-reader it appealed as a good feature film that started right and kept that way. About the single dull period of the film is the love portion between Cosette and Marius. These roles were taken by Le Petite Frommet (sic) et M. de Gravonne. Mlle Frommet wasn't nearly as nice to love as a grown up as the child who took the same part 15 years before. De Gravonne was very serious, in mind and action, and with a timid little mustache, he scarce looked a fevered lover. But Henri Krauss as Jean Valjean held up all scenes. He is superb in this picture, fits the role as though written around him, plays with much dignity and it is worth sitting the film through to merely see this actor before the camera. Mlle Mistinguett, one of the best known music hall artists in Paris, had the character of Thenardier's daughter, Eponine, but for what she did with it, the part required no one of her prominence to play. M. Eitevant (sic) is Javert, the police inspector and shadow of Jean. He made up to resemble a Dickens character, but put plenty of force into his acting and left the usual feeling against the "villun". Mlle Ventura as Fantine gave a good performance, and in her scenes with Valjean, double photography and dissolving were nicely shown. M. Bernard as Priest Myriel, for his brief time upon the screen, did exceptionally well. There are 10 principal actors altogether besides mob scenes, one during the rebellion of 1832, when the rebels were given plenty of leeway, but an army in uniform was held in check, with little chance to make a display, nor was the street where the conflict between the mob and army occurred of sufficient width for spectacular maneuvering. This was a moment when the picture could have broadened into tensity and grandeur, but the scene ended on the narrow road. Two deaths are shown, that of Fantine in Part Two and Valjean at the finale. The reels are run without waits, to an orchestral organ accompaniment, with an intermission evenly separating the four acts. The film at Carnegie may be shifted to a Broadway house, if patronage proves worth while. The picture had an engagement in Boston before entering New York and was well received there. As a feature film it is decidedly attractive, well and carefully produced, with good photography. Whether it will draw as a picture by itself remains to be seen. It should, for the Hugo novel certainly must have a drawing power on its title alone, and here is the living exposition of it for farther interest. One cannot leave after seeing the film without carrying a deeply rooted impression of Mr. Krauss as Valjean. He alone should be sufficient to spread about the fame of the picture. Sime.

Hello, good morning, I have been summoned by the words "1920s Lesbian AU" please tell me more!!!
Got 2 asks about this (the other from @starknstarwars)! Thank you both :)
Hello. This is an idea I came up with a while ago which is a mashup of a French musical called Mistinguette (set, obviously, in the 1920s) and swtor with references to The Well of Loneliness. It features Nevar’ija as a suit-wearing, slightly less depressing version of Radclyffe Hall but make it gangster; Kira, basically Mistinguette but a giant lesbian; and Cyn (OC belonging to @sunsetofdoom), a flapper and daughter of a rumrunner in charge of organising shipments from Eu to US.
The plot is vaguely: La Casino (a burlesque bar) is running out of money bc Great Depression and the property is about to be bought by Melwas, a gangster who owns a buch of actual casinos and makes bank off of people gambling. His whole plan is to turn the theater into a parking lot, but Kira & co are trying really hard to save it. Nev, Melwas' second in command and English heiress whose entire family has died sparking her move to Paris, got roped into Melwas' plans somehow (they’re only cousins in this AU). She ends up spending a lot of time at La Casino scoping out the place to find weaknesses to exploit to make it close faster. Cyn, whose father is an up and coming business tycoon rich off rumrunning, also wants to buy the theater to profit from it. Cyn is sent to spy on Nev and also scope out the place, and determines that the best way to spy is to seduce Nev. Nev is busy dealing with internalised homophobia bc she's like “fuck Kira is so hot and wow so is this random other woman who is flirting with me whut.” Meanwhile Doc, the metteur en scene, has been trying to save La Casino without success so Kira, being the absolute boss that she is, takes over. And her solution is to seduce both Nev and Cyn. Cue drama.
Talking about it has made me really want to return to it now
#wip game#1920s AU#nev#cyn#kira#mel#i forgot what a great disaster of an idea this was#i should come back to it and actually write it

Time continues to pass with accelerated force, while history plants its seeds. Often, we don’t pay attention to the subtle changes making their way into our environment and tend to miss out on marvelous transformations.
With technological advances and world revolutions, many significant sights and cities have undergone drastic redesigns that have enabled them to develop in a modernized world. Discoveries following world wars and new machines have allowed for structures to be rebuilt in efficient ways that help progress societies.
Looking back at the changes can be quite shocking and can even provide you with a new perspective. From developing luxurious high-rises to cutting-edge renovations, the planet has seen vast improvements over time that can be remembered with pride and appreciation. Below are 8 before and after photos of places that have changed significantly from the past.
1. The Moulin Rouge cabaret in Paris, France during the 1950s and in 2018. This spot was where famous French artists, like Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, the man who made their famous posters, according to The Guardian, frequented before it was accidentally burnt down in 1915. It was later rebuilt and revived as a club for entertainers during the 1920s and on, and hosted icons like Mistinguett, Edith Piaf and Charles Aznavour. Now it primarily serves as a tourist attraction, with extravagant shows filled with bright lights and costumes, that are open to the public.

2. The Tower Bridge in London, England, from 1894 to 2017. This viaduct adjacent to the Tower of London, a historic castle, took 8 years to build and has now become a staple attraction for visitors from around the world. In 2008, the bridge began to undergo what was a four-year-long major renovation project, which included LED lights and a new paint job, says The Telegraph.

3. Mulberry Street, in New York City, USA from 1900 to 2014. This road is located in the centre of Little Italy, in Manhattan and has been a setting to many prominent events through history, as well as Mafia crimes, explains Lonely Planet. The sidewalks are no longer covered with carts and merchants, but with busy patios of popular restaurants.

4. The Great Library in Osgoode Hall, Toronto, Canada from the 19th century to 2018. This space was an addition following renovations to Osgoode Hall in 1929, uniquely meant for the Law Society of Upper Canada, says Blog TO. It contains 120,000 legal volumes and is a private space paid for by lawyers who are members, that opens to the public during regular operating hours. Its layout and furniture style has changed, but it remains one of Toronto’s hidden treasures.

5. Los Angeles City Hall in California, from 1927 to 2018. This building is located in the Civic Center district of downtown Los Angeles and houses the mayor’s office, according to their personal Facebook page. Being located in a prime spot, it has had the chance to be included as the backdrop of many famous movies and shows, such as The Adventures of Superman, War of the Worlds and L.A. Confidential. You can now find it surrounded by palm trees and sports cars.
Wikimedia / Instagram
6. Museum of the City of Lodz, in Łódź, Poland from the 1920’s to 2017. The castle was previously owned by a Polish-Jewish businessman, Izrael Poznański, and served as a personal palace with numerous offices and dining spaces, explains Culture.pl, a Polish historical website. The space now works as a museum honoring architecture and national history.

7. Dubai, UAE from 2005 to 2012. This global city has quickly transformed from being a desert to becoming a business hub and one of the most visited places in the Middle East. Countless skyscrapers were built over the last decade, including the tallest tower in the world, Burj Khalifa, confirms Guinness World Records. Oil revenue initially launched its development but now its funding relies primarily on tourism, real estate and aviation.

8. The Coney Island Cyclone at Luna Park in Coney Island, New York from 1961 to 2018. Originally created as a part of a long-time amusement park, Astroland, the ride has now become an iconic part of the island and its culture. Made of wood over 90 years ago, says Fortune, the roller coaster currently finds itself surrounded by many new, high-tech counterparts.
Wikimedia / Tumblr
9. Front Street in Toronto, Canada, from 1950 to 2018. The main road, which is now home to the Fairmont Royal York hotel and Union Station, was excavated mid-twentieth century for the construction of the subway, according to Toronto.ca. The street was first laid out in 1796 and is still one of the most walked-on in the city.
Wikimedia / Shutterstock
10. Estadio Olímpico Universitario in Mexico City, from 1952 to 2018. At the time of its erection, this multi-purpose stadium was the largest in the country. Since that time it’s held the 1955 Pan American Games, the 1968 Summer Olympics, says Olympic.org, and a few 1986 FIFA World Cup games. As a constituent of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, it also works as a playing field on campus.
Wikimedia / Shutterstock
11. The Bode Museum on the Museum Island in Berlin, Germany, from 1909 to 2018. Originally, the building was called the Kaiser Friedrich Museum, after Emperor Frederick III, explains Visit Berlin, but was later renamed in 1956 to honour its first curator. Today, it sits near the Fernsehturm Tower, and holds works varying in eras, from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance.
Wikimedia / Shutterstock
12. The Acropolis of Athens, in Greece, from the 1900’s to 2018. The Acropolis, meaning “highest point,” in Greek, says the English Oxford Dictionary, is an ancient fortress located above the capital city of Athens. It’s comprised of a number of ancient buildings, including the Parthenon. The archaic site remains a historical attraction that is recognized worldwide.
Wikimedia / Shutterstock
13. Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, from 1937 to 2018. The famous beach officially opened to the public in 1882, and since has been a popular retreat for locals and visitors, alike. Though it is historically famous for its strict laws against indecent swimwear, according to Australia’s Daily Telegraph, it has now converted to contemporary norms and allows bikinis and topless sunbathing.
Wikimedia / Shutterstock
14. Tokyo Station Building in Chiyoda, Tokyo from 1997 to 2018. The Marunouchi business district, neighboring the Imperial Palace, is where the original building still lies. An expansion, not far from the Ginza commercial district, was added more recently, with further renovations developing until 2013. Shockingly, two Japanese prime ministers were assassinated at the station, one in 1921 and the other in 1930, says CNN.
Wikimedia / Shutterstock
15. Pike Street in Seattle, Washington, from 1909 to 2018. Seattle’s Pike Street is most famous for being residence to Pike Place Market, the country’s oldest operated public farmers’ markets, dating back to 1907, according to Seattle.gov. The 33rd most visited tourist attraction in the world sees more than 10 million people yearly and contains a variety of family-owned shops, restaurants and fresh seafood and produce.

16. The Chicago Skyline, in the State of Illinois, from 1970 to 2018. This beautiful metropolitan city inhabits over 2.7 million people and is the third-largest in the United States, after New York and Los Angeles. Wikimedia / Shutterstock
17. Jama Masjid in Delhi, India from 1976 to 2018. Built in 1644 following orders by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, it is one of the largest mosques ever built in India and can hold up to 25,000 guests. The building faced two attacks, one bombing in 2006, and a shooting in 2010, though none were fatal, says the Encyclopedia Britannica.
Wikimedia / Shutterstock
18. Chiang Mai, Thailand, from 1976 to 2018. The city of Chiang Mai is the largest in northern Thailand. Found above the Ping River, says Chiang Mai by Hotels.com, it holds some of the most beautiful Buddhist temples, dating back to the 13th century. The old city is where these intricate gems exist, a place often crowded with awestruck tourists.
Wikimedia / Shutterstock
19. Hampton Court Gardens in London, England, from the 1930’s to 2018. Home to a large trapezoid maze, commissioned in the 18th century, it covers 60 acres of land, says Historical Royal Palaces, and is known for being remarkably well-kept. It sits behind a palace originally belonging to King Henry the 8th during the 16th century and is now open for public tours.

I just convinced him with only my mouth For when you touch a president Playing like a goody-two-shoes, I’ve found You get ahead acting timid I just convinced him with just my weapons For when you greet a president What those with morals all judge and condemn Will still gain us some time in the end I just convinced him with only my mouth For when you touch a president Know how to use cartridges and not strike out The goal is reached if you persist I just convinced him without being strong For when you lay a president We get it all even when it seems wrong If we straddle with our talent I just convinced him with only my mouth For when you touch those who are tough If we’re scared to let something slip out now It’s since we don’t dream for too much I just convinced him without being strong For when you lay a president We get it all even when it seems wrong If we straddle with our talent

All, on the red or on the “dark” Play, my life where heads or tails marks I, have lost The taste those lovely days brought Take the hand, the heart comes when all seems for naught
Again, one round and, the draw can’t balance Past my love Past my chance Again, one round and, death joins in the dance Waltz, this love Turn my luck around
All, on the ten in the dead end Play, my nights risking what happens At, random I bet despair’s the outcome It’s vain but, should I bet tomorrow’s the one?
Again, one round and, the draw can’t balance Past my love Past my chance Again, one round and, death joins in the dance Waltz, this love Turn my luck around
Come on~ Oh, oh, oh~ Come on~ Turn, turn, turn
One last, turn comes and, then death takes its chance Waltz, this love Cross the floor No more
Notes:
The final lines, “au tapis, tant pis” from Hermy:
Envoyer valser: send reeling
Valse: A kinda dance
Envoyer au tapis: a sport term, basically literally throwing someone on the carpet by defeating them (in like combat sports)
Faire tapis is betting everything in poker
Also it’s the name of the stack of poker chips
I think the main point is envoyer valser l'amour au tapis Literally send love flying to the ground
Envoyer valser someone is also often used to say "telling ppl to stfu" But like reeeeeeally politely
Obviously, I couldn’t include all of that symbolism into 5 English syllables, so I tried to incorporate the “send love flying to the ground“ part where the singer is going to cross the gambling hall no more as well as his poker chips. It should also be noted that in the live performance, when he says “turn, turn, turn” and after that, there is a poker chip flying through the air behind him on a screen. So he and the poker chip will cross the floor no more.

De quoi les gens se plaignent?~Mistinguett, reine des années folles English Trans-lyrics + French Lyrics (Parole)
These are my English trans-lyrics for De quoi les gens se plaignent? from Mistinguett, reine des années folles. This song was short enough that it wasn’t included on the official album, and since there was no official DVD release, there isn’t a superb copy of the song anywhere. However, a friend of mine, @dangereuse-liaison, listened to the live version and tried her best to get the French lyrics to translate. SO, these are based on her version, and they seem pretty darn accurate, so I’ll post the French dictation as well

I saw him there, lying by heaven So I took his wings and just laughed at him He’s downed, you’ll see I’m flying I’m flying
So the sun will shine through all of the rain It all has a price, so I must betray Without speaking I’m laughing I’m laughing
Why do people complain? In love with things they hate They’re trained to turn the other cheek Why do people complain? Far from Christian anyway To win, I would do anything
But, every night Every night Nightmares come to life With no light With no light And my heart feels Empty Greedy Tell me I don’t care
But, every night Every night Nightmares come to life Though I’ve tried Though I’ve tried And my heart feels Weary Leaving With this love to spare
Why do people complain? When the lights go out each day They just lie down and close their eyes Why do people complain? All those who never deign To dress like a wolf to survive
Pray to the Madonna and sanctify Survival of the fittest, any price The ending goal: An idol An idol
They follow behind as I move on first Taking the treasures that they all offer This protocol Makes me crawl Makes me crawl
Why do people complain? No one can ever reach fame Without the grace of some misdeeds Why do people complain? No mercy for those in my way To climb up, I’d do anything

These are my English trans-lyrics for Drôle mambo. Like the last Mistinguett song I did, I had to translate this myself. If there are any errors, I apologize. Remember though, I purposely wrote them to be sung, so it will not be an exact translation.
3/10/2019 EDIT: A friend of mine translated the lyrics for me, so I updated the parts of my original lyrics that were incorrect!

(Ho~)
Searching, searching through Above and below too Do not be chic Just take money
Cram it, cram it in But water mainly, then Rinse off the cops It saves a lot
Of time for lords Eat your cake too, but before Someone bothers you One job, and they’re through
Who’s best at deceiving In this ball of only thieves? Hiding the cash with None seeing it?
Your hands up Make a wrong step and go Brave through the droll mambo Everything, will feel turned, when dancing, like gangsters But never turn your back
Your hands up Make a wrong step and go Brave through the droll mambo A good hit, from somewhere, makes one hit, billionaire Without getting hit back (Hey~)
Rig it, rig it all In slots, you’ll get a haul Before you know Roll in the gold
Cover, cover up Everything like true thugs That’s the ethics Of politics
When a father Wants to take down the players There’s one assurance The law of silence
Who will be the strongest In this ball of champions? Enjoy every dime In his lifetime?
Your hands up Make a wrong step and go Brave through the droll mambo Everything, will feel turned, when dancing, like gangsters But never turn your back
Your hands up Make a wrong step and go Brave through the droll mambo A good hit, from somewhere, makes one hit, billionaire Without getting hit back
Hiding the cash
Your hands up Make a wrong step and go Brave through the harsh mambo Everything, will feel turned, when dancing, like gangsters But never turn your back
Your hands up Make a wrong step and go Brave through the droll mambo A good hit, from somewhere, makes one hit, billionaire Without getting hit back
(Ohh~)
